About

Hello

The idea of a bike-touring business started in 2016, when we were inspired by the landscapes and the beauty of the surrounding nature. Our base camp is in Mercheasa, a little Saxon village located in the heart of Transylvania. This is where most of our ebike tours start.

The village lacks any tourist accommodation which drives genuine Transylvanian culture. The spirit of the village lays in its people and I also became one of the locals 5 years ago. A lot of the work is put on environmental projects, with the main purpose to drive sustainability in the village whilst protecting the ancient wood pasture. We had different projects in the area: site clean-ups, trail marking, marathon racing and social development. We promote natural protected areas, heritage, local food and a healthy way of living.

The team

Silviu Neculai-Pelei

I am the the founder of E-bike Transylvania, born and raised in Brasov, educated in hospitality management and tourism industry. I am qualified as a mountain bike leader (level 2 offered by MIAS), national guide, mountain guide and local guide in Brasov. (certifications offered by the Romanian Government). I am fluent in English but when I get the chance I have the ambition to conversate in Spanish, French, Hungarian or German.
I have spent most of my 20’s exploring the Carpathians that surround Brasov and now I am working to develop ecotourism in the Transylvanian countryside by marking trails, organizing running events and ebike tours.
When I am not on the bike, I like to dig new trails, stretch with some yoga and read a good book.

How to get here?

Landing in Bucharest or Cluj the drive to Mercheasa takes 4h drive from Bucuresti, or 3h from Cluj. We can arrange transport with a small car or a van. If you are coming from Brasov, closest big city from us, you can enjoy a beautiful 1h drive through the Saxon villages of ancient Burzenland and the colorful Bogata forest.

The Project

E-bike Transylvania is the result of an European Grant offered through AFIR with a main objective to develop tourism in the commune of Homorod by supporting local craftsmen and employment. The owner of this project has been granted 50.000 € in order to develop the e-bike rental business.

Our E-bikes

E-bikes are exciting, easy to ride, and environmentally friendly. E-bikes support our work for protecting nature and provide the travelers with more stamina to enjoy the view.

We use e-mountain bikes (German Built quality front suspension mountain bikes with electrical assistance) to remove from the effort of climbing the hills. The tours are designed with safety in mind for active adults and children over 16.

More than a bicycle but without losing the essence, an e-bike will assist you in your endeavors without draining your energy. The idea is to get pedal-assistance so that you can still enjoy your ride more and focus on sightseeing rather than pedaling.

Our bikes are Ghost E-bikes, 2017 built, German bicycle technology some equipped with Shimano Steps 8000 250W engine and some with Bosch Performance CX 250W engine. All the bikes are new and store a 500 Wh battery that can take you a long way.
